General FunctionThe Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.
Description Of Primary DutiesPrimary duties of the position are situated within the BA and BS Theatre programs, with overlapping support for the BSED Theatre program. Possible courses to be taught include Script Analysis, Acting Fundamentals, Dramaturgy, Directing I, Arts Administration, or other courses or directing assignments within the applicant’s area of expertise, as determined by consultation with the Department Head. The candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for a theatre generalist curriculum within a department which also includes robust pre-professional BFA and BSED programs. Position also includes department/college/university service, and student advising, and may include serving as the mentor for student dramaturgy in the mainstage season, senior projects, or student production groups. Departmental responsibilities include involvement with program planning, assessment, curriculum development, and participation in department governance.

Minimum Acceptable QualificationsThe minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Additional QualificationsCandidates must hold a terminal degree (normally, a PHD or a 60-hour MFA ) in theatre or a closely related area. Ongoing professional research/creative activity, recruiting, and university & professional service is expected.
